DE Durch Zufall haben wir das gut versteckte Urbachtal entdeckt und uns daraufhin nach Touren von dort aus umgesehen. Dabei sind wir auf den Mattenalpsee gestoßen.
Los geht es beim Parkplatz Urbachtal, von wo aus das Wanderschild eine Dauer von 3 Stunden und 50 Minuten voraussagt. Wir passieren mehrere Kuhweiden und Pferdeweiden bis der Bergwanderweg aufwärts durch den Wald führt.
Nach der Überquerung einiger Bergbäche ist der Wald endlich zu Ende und mündet in eine kleine Alp, beweidet von Schafen.
Im Bereich der Alp wird der Weg etwas flacher und das Tal weiter. Danach folgt wieder ein längerer Aufstieg zu einer Weggabelung, von der ein Weg zum Mattenalpsee und der andere direkt zur Dossenhütte führt. Natürlich entscheiden wir uns für ersteres. Der Weg steigt weiter aufwärts. Da wir einen Regentag erwischt haben, plätschert es überall um uns herum. Teilweise ist es rutschig und Vorsicht ist geboten, dennoch lässt sich diese Wanderung bei Regen gut machen.
Bald haben wir den höchsten Punkt erreicht und laufen nun quasi den Berg entlang Richtung Mattenalpsee.
Zum Ende hin erwartet uns nochmal ein etwas steileres Stück, aber selbst dies lässt sich auch mit Hund gut überwinden.
Kurz vor dem Ziel gibt es eine weitere Abzweigung, mit den Optionen unten im Tal am Wasser entlang zu laufen oder ein Tick weiter oben mit Blick auf den Bachlauf. Wir entscheiden uns für die zweite Option.
Am See angekommen sind wir im ersten Moment ein wenig enttäuscht, weil einem die Schönheit nicht unbedingt ins Auge springt. Je länger wir die Landschaft jedoch auf uns wirken lassen, desto schöner empfinden wir sie.
Einen Rundweg um den See gibt es nicht.
Nach einer ausgiebigen Pause, laufen wir den selben Weg den wir gekommen sind, wieder zurück.
Anreise
Auto: Auf der A6 in Innertkirchen der Beschilderung ins Urbachtal folgen (Achtung: leicht zu übersehen!). Der Straße folgen, bis zum hintersten Parkplatz.
Öffentliche: kein ÖV ins Tal. Wandern ab Innertkirchen dauert ca. 1,5 Stunden länger.

ENG We discovered the well hidden Urbachtal by chance, then looked up trails from there and discovered the hike to the Mattenalpsee.
The hike starts at Urbachtal parking lot, from where the hiking sign predicts a duration of 3 hours and 50 minutes. We pass several cow and horse pastures until the mountain hiking trail leads up through the forest.
After crossing some mountain streams, the trail leaves the forest and leads to a small alp grazed by sheep.
At the alp the path becomes a little flatter and the valley wider. This is followed by a longer ascent to a junction where we continue to follow the trail direction Mattenalpsee. The path continues uphill. Since we caught a rainy day, we are surrounded by streaming water. Sometimes it is slippery and caution is advised, but this hike can be done when its raining.
Soon we have reached the highest point and are now practically walking along the mountain towards Mattenalpsee.
Towards the end a somewhat steeper section awaits us, but even this can be overcome with a dog.
Shortly before the destination there is another junction, with the options down in the valley along the water or a bit further up with a view of the stream. We choose the second option.
When we arrive at the lake, we are a little disappointed at first because the beauty doesn't necessarily catch your eye. However, the longer we take the landscape in, the more beautiful we perceive it.
There is no circular route around the lake.
After a long break, we walk back the same way we came.
Arrival
By car: Follow the sign to Urbachtal from Innertkirchen (attention: easily overlooked). Follow the street until you rech the rear parking lot
By Public transport: no public transport into the valley. Hiking from Innertkirchen takes 1,5 hrs longer.
